Why You Need this Flower: The Black-Eyed Susan
What's there not to love about a black-eyed Susan flower? I don't know either! These beauties perform well from mid Summer to frost and are easy to grow. They bring tons of color to your yard or garden and there's nothing wrong with that! You can't go wrong with this type of perennial. I have made a list of why they're so awesome and why you need some around your home or in your garden below.
1.) They steal the garden show!
They look like a pool of gold! The way they grow in groups with their colors of orange, red, and yellows make it look like you could just swim in them. The most common of these flowers are the ones that have a single row of gold petals with a brown or black center but there are other kinds that have multiple rows of petals. These blooms can last for weeks and weeks.
2.) They bloom in both Summer and Fall!
What's more beautiful? Flowers that bloom in the Summer or flowers that bloom in the Fall?
Either way they're beautiful and you can enjoy them almost all year round! Black-eyed Susan's start to bloom when other flowers start to fade so you always have something to admire when other flowers start to vanish. Also it's a clear sign that fall is around the corner when these start to bloom. It's basically natures way of giving you a heads up.
3.) They're deer, rabbit and insect resistant.
That's right! While these creatures are cute and cuddly deer and rabbit can sometimes cause more bad than good when it comes to plants. On the bright side deer and rabbit hate these flowers so you have nothing to worry about if you live close to any. Also you try to keep insects away anyway why not let the plants do the job? Take it easy and get some black-eyed Susan's.
4.) They're drought-tolerant!
Have you forgotten to water one of your plants? I know I can embarrassingly admit to that one. I have done it so many times but the good news is with a black-eyed Susan you can forget and they won't die.
5.) Dragonflies love these flowers!
And why is that such a good thing you ask? Because dragonflies keep away mosquitoes! Dragonflies are one of the best predators to keep mosquito populations low by eating mosquito larvae. (I know, gross!) But it's the truth!
6.) Another name is Rudbeckia and there's all different kinds.
One of the most popular of the perennials is the "Goldsturm" and it is a bright yellow daisy.
Rudbekia Triloba has small yellow flowers and is short-lived,
Rudbekia Hirta "Indian Summer"has hairy foliage and grows 3 feet tall.
Just to name a few.
I hope you have enjoyed the list I have gathered about the black-eyed Susan! Don't forget to like this post and follow me!
