6 Reasons Why You Need to Stop Cussing Now

Life in the Bible means one or two things. First, it is living. Second, it is salvation. Life is salvation. That is what life is about. It's about getting to heaven and getting others to heaven. The word "life" itself is mentioned in the Bible at least 29 times. Life is important. Salvation is important.

Life starts in the beginning. Genesis.

Genesis 2:7

"Then the Lord God formed man of dust from the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being."

Life is from God. You are from God. Your life... it's from God.

He formed you and He breathed oxygen into you. The breath of life is inside you this very moment and always has been. Praise Him for you are a living being just like Adam.

Life/salvation is so important that it is mentioned not only from the beginning but all the way towards the end. In Revelation.

It talks about the book of life. Several times. Revelation 20:15 being one of the many examples.

Revelation 20:15

"And if anyone's name was not found in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire."

Revelation is a very, very important book that stands out more than the other books.

It's about life and death. It talks about the Book of Life and the Book of Life is a list of names who are saved. Many people have their own perception of how to be saved but you should always go by what the Bible says to do in order to be saved. That's a blog for another day.

Now, let's talk about death. I know that doesn't sound very fun buy hey, it's important and you need to know how to handle it.

Death is mentioned way, way more than life in the Bible. Isn't that ironic?

The definition of death literally means the end of life but in the Bible there's two types of death. One: the death of your old self when you're saved and two: your physical death.

But one of the most important verses that come form the Bible is Romans 14:8.

Romans 14:7-9

"For not one of us lives for himself, and not one dies for himself; for if we live, we live for the Lord, or if we die, we die for the Lord; therefore whether we live or die, we are the Lord's. For to this end Christ died and lived again, the He might be Lord both of the dead and of the living."

My point is both life and death are very serious matters and should taken up by responsibility and it starts from what comes from our mouths and what we say.

Ephesians 4:29

"Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth..."

Life and death are in the tongue.

1. God Says Be imitators of Him

If we want to be like God we can't cuss. Simple as that.

In Ephesians chapter 5, Paul is writing to the church (already Christians) to display God's eternal plan for all humanity. Paul wrote this while in prison and God wasted no time. He told Paul what to write and that was to be imitators of Him and He tells us how. To be like children and not in the way misbehaving or trouble-making but just as forgiving and loving and simple as they are.

It also says to walk in love and that means to be patient with people, kind to people and to never brag about yourself.

It means to sacrifice yourself for others.

It means to be a light to others.

2. Cussing Defiles You

Matthew 15:11, 17-20

"It is not what enters into the mouth that defiles the man, but what proceeds out of the mouth, this defiles the man."

"Do you not understand that everything that goes into the mouth passes into the stomach, and is eliminated? But the things that proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, those defile the man. For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, slanders. These are the things which defile the man; but to eat with unwashed hands does not defile the man."

Curse words reveal the condition of your heart and it is the evil thoughts that Matthew lists. Defile is the opposite of purity. Cussing literally unpurifies you. It defiles you, it impairs you and it spoils you. Spoils. Like rotten food or milk. And like rotten food or milk it's disgusting and no one wants a taste. They want to throw it away. Just like cussing no one wants to be around it. So stop it right now!

3. You're a New You!

That's if you've been born again. When you become a Christian you die and let go of your old self and be born again and become your new self. You no longer seek things that are on earth, so you no longer should seek cursing, swearing, or profanity. You're supposed to set your mind on heaven and how to get there, on God and how to please Him, and Jesus and how to be like Him. Christ is your life now.

When you are born again you have to consider yourself dying to all the sin in the world because if you don't it will only anger God, your father.

Colossians 3:8

"But now you also, put them all aside: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and abusive speech from your mouth."

Honestly it can't be any clearer.

4. If You Quit Cussing You Will Feel Free

Isn't it true? That the truth sets you free? And isn't it true that cussing is a sin? Doesn't God tell you not to do it? If God tells you and the Bible says it isn't it true? If God tells you not to do something doesn't that make it a sin? Anything that goes against God's word is a sin. If you sin you feel trapped and if you commit to the truth and do nothing but of truth it makes you feel free and you should do just that. For Jesus tells us so in the book of John.

John 8:32

"and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free."

John 8:34

"Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who commits sin is the slave of sin."

If you commit sin and live in sin you become and are a slave but if you live in truth which is the opposite of sin you will be free and feel free. Just like if you cuss, you become a slave to it. Cussing and profanity is now your master and you just let it. That's the worst part. You have a choice. You have a choice if you want it to be your master or not. You are the one that should be the master of  your cussing; not the other way around.

5. Jesus Could Literally Come Back At Any Second

You don't want to be cussing in front of Jesus, do you? No? That's what I thought.

Think about it. You wouldn't be caught dead sinning in front of Jesus, would you? How could you possibly do that to Him after all what He has done for you. He was beat, whipped, mocked, made fun of and literally hung on a cross for YOU. He did all these things just so you can go to heaven; He didn't do these things just so you can cuss and carry on throughout your day like it's a harmless sin. Let me tell you something. NO sin is harmless. Think of it this way: Sin = Eternity. Your sin equals your eternity. Your truth equals your eternity. Your life equals your eternity.

Luke 12:40

'You too, be ready; for the Son of Man is coming at an hour that you do not expect."

6. You Will Be Judged For It

Just like any other sin you will be judged for it and it will come with a price. I tell you and beware you only of the truth because I care. Friend, there will be a day, a certain day, that will sneak up on you and it's coming closer than you think. The day of judgement is what the Bible calls it.

Matthew 12:36

"But I tell you that every careless word that people speak, they shall give an accounting for it in the day of judgement."
